Maximilian’s Career Advice: Use the time given to following your own interests to create something new so you can make a name for yourself.

First, tell us a little bit about yourself

After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree, I was accepted at ESCP Europe Business School as a Master in Management (MIM) student. The two-year program includes study at several campuses in London, Paris, and Berlin, resulting in a Master in Management from Cass University, the Diplôme de Grande Ecole from France, and a German Master of Science. I chose the MIM program because I knew it would be truly valuable for working in today’s globalized business environment. You learn how to work in teams, with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and you have the opportunity to build an international network. Today, I am working full-time as a Product Specialist Associate for the Advanced Fixed Income Portfolio Management Team in Frankfurt.

What is your average day at work like?

After obtaining an internship in Institutional Account Management – Fixed Income, my day-to-day tasks mainly consisted of compiling a variety of funds analyses. The reports purpose is to inform investors about the performance and relative position in comparison to the funds benchmark.. Additionally, I tried to improve the tools used for the analysis and wrote internal reports about important macroeconomic and political developments in the Eurozone. My reports were so well received that they have been even forwarded to other departments and teams within AllianzGI, which of course made me very proud. As a Product Specialist I am working at the heart of the investment platform of AllianzGI. Here, I act as a gatekeeper between the fixed income portfolio management team in Frankfurt and all other stakeholders within the firm. This means I am strongly involved in pitches for new mandates as well as sales campaigns, trainings and managing regulatory requirements, only to name a few of my various day-to-day tasks.

How did you first get interested in interning at AllianzGI? Describe your experience applying for your internship.

Allianz Global Investors was my first choice for my internship because I was impressed by the firm’s reputation and long successful history. During the recruitment process I had to undertake an Excel-based test to prove my understanding of financial markets, as well as my Excel skills, and I also had a face-to-face interview.
